Meet Captain Matt Koesterer

Capt. Koesterer joined the Swansea Fire Department in April of 2005 and has been an active member for the last 15 years. Capt. Koesterer has had many accomplishments throughout his time in the department. Capt. Koesterer continues to serve as the Chairman of The BBQ committee and has also served as the Secretary of The Civic Association for the past 8 years. When asked why he joined the Department. Capt. Koesterer said, “It was a way for me to help the community, and it also did not hurt that I had several friends already in the fire department.” He stated that his most memorable call throughout the years was “the ice storm in 2006. The 1st night I spent most of the night riding in the back of old 5411 in the open cab. Most of the village was without power, including myself so I spent the rest of the weekend at Engine House 2 with several other firemen. We were credited with running 59 calls over 4 days, and I am relatively sure we ran more than that. The last call of the weekend was a structure fire on Caseyville Ave on the Sunday Afternoon of that weekend. I was in the department less than 2 years when this occurred so this was my first experience with a major storm event so I think that is why these events stuck with me.” Please join us in thanking Capt. Koesterer for his 15 years of dedication and service to The Village of Swansea and the surrounding communities!
